It’s Time for a Fresh Perspective in Yelm

Yelm is a community built on heart, history, and hometown pride — and our local boards and commissions should reflect that same spirit of inclusion and care. Too often, we’ve seen the same small circles making the same decisions, year after year. It’s time to broaden the table. It’s time to make space for new voices, fresh ideas, and a genuine commitment to serving everyone in our community.

When we vote based on familiarity or friendships rather than qualifications and balance, we risk losing what makes Yelm strong — diversity of thought, transparency, and accountability. Our boards — whether it’s City Council, School Board, or the Cemetery Commission — are meant to be nonpartisan, made up of people who bring unique experiences and perspectives to the table. Different viewpoints lead to better discussions, better decisions, and better outcomes for all.

As a candidate for Yelm Cemetery Commissioner, I’m dedicated to restoring that balance and ensuring our cemetery reflects the dignity and individuality of every person laid to rest there. Here’s what I stand for:

  • Open and clear communication between the cemetery and the Yelm community, so every resident feels informed and valued.

  • Restoring individuality and honoring everyone’s right to mourn in their own way, with compassion and respect.

  • Responsible financial planning to ensure the long-term care and sustainability of our cemetery grounds.

  • Collaboration with local organizations and individuals, creating opportunities for shared stewardship and community involvement.

Our cemetery is more than a place of rest — it’s part of Yelm’s story. It deserves thoughtful leadership that values both tradition and progress. Let’s move beyond politics and build boards that truly represent the heart of our town: diverse, caring, and forward-thinking.

Together, we can ensure that Yelm’s future — and the legacy of those who built it — are treated with the respect and responsibility they deserve.
